Earlier this week, I met someone who uses blinders on their glasses.
Yes, it appeared simple, yet it made me think about the complexity of the human brain; about how it works behind the scenes to help us navigate the world.
I remembered the olfactory system, how our brain “turns off” a scent once we’ve smelled it for too long, not because the scent disappears, but because the brain decides to shift our attention to what matters next.
And then it occurred to me that my brain blurs the peripheral vision the same way the olfactory system works.
It helps me shut out the visual noise, narrows the world just enough for me to focus on what’s in front of me.
Yet there are people whose brains don’t do this automatically, people who need physical blinders to create the focus I get for free.
Today, I’m grateful for the quiet gift of focus.
Sometimes the miracles we overlook are the ones happening right in front of us.
